Inside The Games: Sport Positive Awards select World Rowing

The organisation has been recognised as one of the 100 organisations and individuals contributing to a more sustainable future. The trophies will be presented at a ceremony in London on 7 October 2025, and an independent international jury will decide who will take them home.

These awards aim to raise awareness of the need to build a more resilient, equitable and climate-conscious future in sport. The awards ceremony will take place alongside the Sport Positive Summit 2025 on 7–8 October 2025 in London.

World Rowing’s In Balance With Nature: Trakai 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships, which was carried out in collaboration with BloomUp.

This pilot project integrates biodiversity assessment and action directly into the planning and operations of a major international sporting event. The assessment results will support the Healthy Waters Alliance, a joint initiative by World Rowing and WWF that aims to raise awareness of the importance of healthy rivers, lakes, and coastal ecosystems and prepare concrete actions for future World Rowing events.

“As a retired rower, who spent a lot of time on the water and in its natural environments, working on this important project felt like giving something back to nature,” said Maike Betts, World Rowing Development and Sustainability Coordinator. “I am proud to work at World Rowing, where sustainability is at the heart of our daily activity, to protect and restore the ecosystems on which we so heavily depend through our sport,” she added.

Sports clubs, teams, leagues, venues, federations, NGOs and academics from around the world have been shortlisted in twelve categories, including Purpose-Led Partnership, Campaign of the Year and Inspired Innovation.

“As the climate crisis increasingly disrupts the sports we cherish, we must take bold steps to protect not only the future of sport, but also the communities and ecosystems that support it. World Rowing is doing exactly that,” said Claire Poole, founder of Sport Positive, during the announcement of the 2025 shortlist.
